If Red Bull had been born in 1971, it would've been me.

I was called a BANSHEE growing up. At the time, it seemed like just a colorful way to describe the sheer amount of wild energy I brought to every moment. But here's what I didn't know until now: A banshee isn't just wild energy. She's a harbinger. A messenger. A supernatural female spirit from Irish and Scottish Gaelic folklore.

Traditionally, a banshee is a young beautiful woman with long hair. She's not evil—she's the MESSENGER. She doesn't cause death, she WARNS of it. She sees what's coming. She speaks the truth no one else will say. And the irony? My maternal grandmother was an Irish woman who I don't feel was ever valued or SEEN her entire life.

She was an orphan, left by her own family. Perhaps she's channeling her energy into me now. The lineage of Irish women who were never fully seen but had SO much power. The wild ones. The truth-tellers. The messengers.
